Bubisher is an initiative of Spanish journalist and blogger Gonzalo Moure that brings a mobile library full of books to children based in refugee camps in Western Sahara.
The Sahrawi people have been searching for their independence in Western Sahara since 1973 - first from Spanish rule, then Mauritania, and now Morocco. It has been called “the forgotten conflict” by many and an entire generation of Saharawis were born and raised in refugee camps. Still, despite the lack of formal governance and educational institutions, literacy and democracy are beginning to thrive in some of the harshest environs imaginable, writes John Thorne in the Christian Science Monitor.
