The Economic Times is reporting that the American tech giant Cisco is going to be developing a new 61,000 square meter (6.6 lakh square feet) facility in Bangalore.
This new facility makes it the largest development plan by a major IT firm in recent years — in fact, many commercial office spaces, particularly on the edge of the city are sitting vacant. Further, the company has an option to quadruple the size of the facility in the future. The new campus, which is expected to be finished by mid 2012, and will join Cisco’s current facility at Cessna Business Park. If built, that would make Bangalore Cisco’s largest presence outside the US.
Subash Rao, the director of HR for Cisco India told the newspaper: “Cisco has designated Bangalore as our globalisation centre East and indicated that we will have 10,000 - 12,000 employees based here over the next three to five years. The idea is for 20% of the top talent in Cisco to be based here.”
