The slum population in Dhaka has doubled in a decade to reach 3.4 million in 2006. The is number is big in the city of 12 million population. The number of slum dweller is increasing dangarously because of poverty, climate change migration and centralized economical and administrative system. Most of people look visin if they can go Dhaka the life will be change. But the marginalized rural poser after migration don’t get good job and life facilities; most involving with rickshawpullking, hawkering and construction work however rick heavy work. Within less income they lives in slums.
In the slums there is no minimum facilites of health, education and security. The children grows with high ricks of poverty , illiteracy, drug, trafficking and HIV AIDS epidemic.
In this situation “NABO JIBON KENDRO” is running a school only for the slum children. They provide good education and food for nutrition. The aim of the school is to bring the slum children in mainstream peoples participation that they can contribute in the development process. The school was established at 1995 and support from the donors from Austria. The children are happy to learn and get the opportunity to be a good citizen.
Austrian teacher Mica Vamos and her mother taught the children on different subject like story telling, geography, mathematics, color making, drawing and group participation with alternative way by using the educational material made by her students at Austria.
